I'd like to start my new 'blogging season' -this is, blogging again after a long busy period without internet at home- with some pictures from our holidays in Sicily last Christmas. The most delicious tangerines ever, from my boyfriend's family land.We watched a friend harvesting honey. Don't let the digital zoom fool you, we stood very far back!
I was back in the dirty old town for five days. I met my friends, went to my favorite places, visited the Knitting and Stitching Show, got dripping wet, then a sore throat and a cold, and ate some delicious carrot cake. I loved being there again.
Well, it seems that my life is going back to normal after a month of holidays/relocation from Dublin. I arrived to Barcelona two weeks ago and I've been so busy since then: I spent three days going around the whole city to view rooms to rent, then I had to sit the entry exam for a course on Textile Printing I want to attend this year (and I passed, yay!) and of course I had a pile of boxes to unpack. Anyway I managed to spend some time just wandering around and enjoying the last days of summer. Before I came to Barcelona I... [Lire la suite]
Only two days to go! As a farewell to Dublin and Ireland I've put together a list of the nicest places and things I've come across in the last three years. You can check them on THIS MAP too (with pictures!). The list is very limited, unfortunately I haven't been to all the places I wanted to visit and among the ones I visited there are some I can't name or place on a map... It is clear that I need to come back! ;-) But in any case, living here and travelling around was an unforgettable experience... Ok, let's go to the list... [Lire la suite]
I love Eastern European music, so I was extremely happy when our friends from Antikvariat Mingus in Prague gave me this book. It's an old Czech book about Romanian folk songs, showing a selection of folk music scores with lyrics both in Czech and Romanian and illustrated with pictures of musicians and motifs from traditional embroidery. There are a few chapters describing the different music styles and typical instruments. For who doesn't know I graduated in History of Music years ago and at that time Ethnomusicology was my... In the latest posts I got very excited talking about Freiburg and I forgot to mention that before we arrived to Freiburg we spent a few hours in Basel, Switzerland. Here are some pictures:This is one of the moving objects in the very eccentric Jean Tinguely's fountain. These are some of the others:
During my recent trip to Freiburg I spent most of the time walking around and I discovered really nice shops. I started writing down the addresses as a reminder to myself but then I thought that it would be a good idea to share my experience on the blog, so I put together this little shopping guide and map. It is based on my interests, so most of the shops mentioned are art/craft related. It was a pleasure to go exploring around the relaxed, car-free city centre on a summer day and browse all these shops. It made me very envious too:... [Lire la suite]
So this is the list of the shops shown in the map above, organized by category.Fabric/Yarn/Haberdashery:One of the reasons why I didn't want to come back to Dublin. In Freiburg the shops selling textiles and yarn are many, and most important: I like what they sell.- Garconne (Gerberaustrasse 7b): fabrics, trimmings, clothing, sewing workshops.- Welt der Handarbeit (Salzstrasse 37-39): yarns and accessories for knitting, crocheting, embroidery and other needlework. Fabrics (specially Aida and linen for embroidery), kits and patterns in... [Lire la suite]
Art/Antiques/Curios: Difficult to visit all of them on a short trip. These are some that caught my eye.- Langenbeck (Gerberaustrasse 6): metal antiques and replicas for period hauses. Beautiful period tiles from Replicata.- Silvia Steinhauser (Gerberaustrasse 10): Antiques and deco shop. Items from Green Gate.- W. Scherb Antiques (Kartauerstrasse 32): small antiques shop.- Teppichgalerie Pir (Konviktstrasse 49): antique oriental rugs.- Galerie Springmann (Schusterstrasse 25): art gallery, fine prints.- Antiquitaten am Schwabentor...
