Works in progress

These days I am working on a series of fabric brooches for my Esty shop and writing down notes for new accessories I'd like to make soon. At the same time I am putting together a Google map with nice shops I visited in my recent holiday in Freiburg, Germany, that will be posted here next week. Stay tunned!

Kumihimo

The young crafter has a new toy brought from her recent trip to Germany: a kumihimo tool :-) Since all the instructions in the kit were in German I had to browse the internet for some help to get me started. I learned the very basics with this video and kept myself busy during the holidays experimenting with the different results obtained by putting the colours in a different order in the beginning. Now I have to keep researching the technique. I'll keep you updated!

Embroidery around the house

Love this embroidered headboard by Lydia Lee found at Design*Sponge. Isn't it a clever idea?

The crafty library grows

Two new acquisitions for the craft manuals section of my library: Fabric Jewellery by Teresa Searle and Sew What! Skirts by Francesca DenHartog and Carol Ann Camp. I know I should keep my library as reduced as possible, considering that I'm probably moving soon (and internationally) but I love useful, pretty books I can refer to many times, and I think these two are definitely of that kind. A peek into Sew What! Skirts: And into Fabric Jewellery:

Dorset Buttons

One of my latest crafty adventures is Dorset button making. If you visit my Etsy shop you'll see a series of hair clips decorated with these buttons. Dorset button making was a flourishing industry before the button making machines took over around 1850. Originally they were made with sheep horn rings but now a curtain ring will do very well. The type I've been producing is known as 'Cartwheel' but there are many other types, as you can see in the gallery of the British Button Society. More information can be find in Marion... This morning, happiness in the shape of fabric. I received my latest order from Contemporary Cloth. Good price, super fast shipping. I'm looking forward to making things with it!
